Alphabetical Index of the Great Masters of the Orientalism

Orientalist paintings were a popular art genre that emerged in Europe in the late 18th century and continued to be popular until the early 20th century. The genre was characterized by a fascination with the cultures, people, and landscapes of the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia.

Orientalist paintings typically featured exotic and romanticized depictions of these regions, often portraying them as mysterious and otherworldly. Common subjects included harems, bazaars, mosques, desert landscapes, and figures in traditional dress. The paintings were often characterized by rich colors, intricate patterns, and dramatic lighting.

Some of the most famous Orientalist painters include Eugène Delacroix, Jean-Léon Gérôme, and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. Delacroix's "The Women of Algiers in Their Apartment" and Gérôme's "The Snake Charmer" are both examples of Orientalist paintings that are considered masterpieces.
