Questions about this Print

The size you set is the printed image, the part you see once the canvas is stretched. Beyond that size we add 1.2 in of blank canvas on every side, at no extra cost, so the stretcher bars have something to grip. A 17.1 × 21.7 in print therefore arrives as 19.4 × 24 in. Both numbers are shown in Your Selection above and change with the slider.

Yes. The slider covers every size up to 32.6 × 41.3 in, always in the proportions of the original. If you need something larger, or a size that has to fit a frame you already own, write to us with the title and the dimensions and we will tell you what is possible. Every print is made to order, so there is usually a way.

Because the original is an oil painting on canvas. We match the print medium to the original: oil paintings go on canvas, works on paper go on fine art paper. Our canvas is natural cotton, 400 g/m² Canvas, acid-free and pH neutral, and its woven texture gives the most natural impression of Vincent van Gogh's original oil painting. The finish is satin/gloss, which keeps the depth of the dark tones the way varnish does on a painting in a museum; a matte canvas looks dull and pale next to it. More about our print media.

Start with the original, which measures 73.5 × 92 cm. A print at or near that size reads the way the artist judged it. Printing smaller is easy; enlarging a small original changes its character. For the wall, above a sofa or a sideboard aim for two thirds to three quarters of the furniture width, and hang the center at eye level. Cut paper to size and tape it to the wall before you order. The original hangs in Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Full size guide.

About the Painting

"Blossoming Almond Tree" by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh, painted in 1890, is one of his best-known pieces. Showcasing his distinctive post-impressionist style characterized by vibrant hues and expressive brushwork, this work stands as a prime example.

Van Gogh captured an almond tree in full bloom against a vibrant blue sky in this painting, its branches covered with delicate white and pink blossoms forming an eye-catching contrast against its strong color scheme. His composition was simple yet striking, showcasing his ability to transform everyday scenes into breathtaking works of art.

Van Gogh painted "Blossoming Almond Tree" for his newborn nephew who bore his name. As an image symbolic of new life and inspired by Japanese art he greatly admired, which included flatness of paint strokes, bold lines, and lack of shadows all characteristic features found within woodblock prints that had an enormous impact on Van Gogh's style.

Van Gogh's masterpiece "Blossoming Almond Tree" stands out for many reasons, not least of all because it was created during a time of relative calm and stability in his life. He painted it while living at Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France; even while suffering mental health difficulties at this institution he managed to produce some of his greatest masterpieces during this period.

"Blossoming Almond Tree" can currently be found in Amsterdam at the Van Gogh Museum, where its beauty and tranquillity continue to delight viewers. Even during periods of personal struggle for Van Gogh himself, its message stands as proof of his continued talent and ability to find beauty everywhere around him.
