The size you set is the printed image, the part you see once the canvas is stretched. Beyond that size we add 1.2 in of blank canvas on every side, at no extra cost, so the stretcher bars have something to grip. A 21.7 × 18 in print therefore arrives as 24 × 20.3 in. Start with the original, which measures 64 × 53.5 cm. A print at or near that size reads the way the artist judged it. Printing smaller is easy; enlarging a small original changes its character. About the Painting

This painting resurrects a forgotten, once Paris, a moment that no longer exists, with the citizens in cylinders and the women, and a vaguely outlined carriage in the background, over which the overhanging foliage of this background forms, as it were, a pile of wreaths above the hearse. But it is not a hearse, for the horses are white, and close by them, amidst the dominant blue of the picture, a fresh and defiant spot of white flashes. The complexion of the girl in the foreground, the redness of her lips, the bronze sheen of her hair form the most vivid system of coloured patches in the whole canvas. It radiates the charm of youth, the zest for life. The painting is built on that "accidental" movement with which the dreamy girl is about to cross the canvas almost unexpectedly into the street. In the embellishments of his coat and hat, one can see how the artist has laid out the colours, how he has reflected onto them the reflection of the immediate environment, invisible to the viewer.
