The size you set is the printed image, the part you see once the canvas is stretched. Beyond that size we add 1.2 in of blank canvas on every side, at no extra cost, so the stretcher bars have something to grip. A 18.8 × 21.7 in print therefore arrives as 21.1 × 24 in. Both numbers are shown in Your Selection above and change with the slider.

Because the original is an oil painting on canvas. We match the print medium to the original: oil paintings go on canvas, works on paper go on fine art paper. Our canvas is natural cotton, 400 g/m² Canvas, acid-free and pH neutral, and its woven texture gives the most natural impression of Fragonard's original oil painting. Start with the original, which measures 53 × 62 cm. A print at or near that size reads the way the artist judged it. Printing smaller is easy; enlarging a small original changes its character. For the wall, above a sofa or a sideboard aim for two thirds to three quarters of the furniture width, and hang the center at eye level. Cut paper to size and tape it to the wall before you order. About the Painting

"The Rock" by Jean-Honore Fragonard is a feast for the eyes - a landscape that feels alive and breathing. The canvas pulses with energy, from the billowing clouds to the craggy earthen forms below.

Fragonard's palette sings with soft blues and creamy whites in the sky, contrasted against rich earth tones in the foreground. The eponymous rock looms large, a hulking presence of ochre and umber. Dappled sunlight catches its edges, bringing out golden highlights.

What strikes me is how Fragonard's brush dances across the surface. His technique is loose yet precise - each stroke confident and expressive. The foliage atop the rock is a flurry of dabbed greens, while wispy clouds are rendered with gossamer-light touches.

The composition draws the eye in a circular motion. We start at the rock, then follow the winding path where a small figure leads an ox-drawn cart. Our gaze lifts to those magnificent clouds before settling on the sliver of sea in the distance.

There's a palpable sense of atmosphere here. You can almost feel the breeze rustling through leaves, smell the salt air. It's a moment frozen in time, yet brimming with life and movement.

Fragonard gives us nature untamed, but not threatening. The scale makes humans seem small, yet not insignificant. It's a celebration of the everyday sublime - finding wonder in a passing cloud or gnarled tree root.
